Pregnancy's Hard Truths and Their Holistic Remedies

Pregnancy is not all baby showers and picking out nursery furniture. This week we look at the Mother in our month of women's health. It's hard work and grueling on the physical body and mental stamina. Never fear there are plenty of ways to easily manage these symptoms with holistic remedies, herbs and crystals. Below we will run through some of the more common symptoms that arise during child bearing and some accompanying ways to reduce them to make it a comfortable and memorable experience.

Morning Sickness

The tell tale sign for many that they are pregnant is the beginning of morning sickness. Some get it worse than others but unfortunately most women will suffer some degree of sickness during the early months if not the entire pregnancy. Eating a diet of bland food such as trail mix, toast, crackers and smoothies and increasing vitamin B6 when feeling nausea come on will line the stomach and reduce the body's want to be sick. Aromatherapy will help to reduce stress so light up some sweet candles and take a soak in the tub. Holding crystals such as citrine, dioptase, green fluorite, obsidian, sapphire or tigers eye until symptoms subside will also be a great help for your upset stomach.

Hemorrhoids and Constipation

Some of the less talked about symptoms to pregnancy, hemorrhoids and constipation, come from the pressure of bub on your body. These require you to be gentle and kind to your body. Keep hydrated. Take a long soak in the bath to reduce body tension.

Using fragrance and dye free toilet paper or witch hazel wipes will reduce the risks of developing them. If all else fails using a donut pillow will help with the pain during pregnancy. For prevention from them in the first place kegels are a great way to build up your inner muscles. For crystal support place citrine or tigers eye under your seat or cushion and or drink a water elixir of amber.


We have all had a headache, pregnant or not, and there are some fail safe methods to reduce their severity and to relive their pain altogether. A cool compress or herbal pillow placed across the brow will help you to relax and ease the tension in your head. Using essential oils such as clary sage in the pillow or in a difuser is going to rapidly enhance it's power. Accompanied or alone, massages will also be one of the fastest ways to relax and relieve the body's tension and aches. To keep on top of future headaches, regular yoga and meditation sessions are going to build up the body's resistance to pains from stress and allow you to recenter yourself through breathe movement and mindfulness. Crystals to hold to headache pain are amethyst or sugilite.


Heartburn is commonly linked to foods so try to consume less carbonated drinks and spices, too much grease or citrus. Try eating smaller snacks throughout the day and drinking soothing drinks like honey milk or weak tea. Getting more sleep will also reduce the risks of getting heartburn symptoms in the first place.

Stretch Marks

Keeping the skin moisturized as it tightens and stretches will reduce the likelihood of developing stretch marks during your pregnancy term. Eating foods high in vitamin c, trying to put on weight slow and steady through eating right and keeping fit will help also. Remember it is completely natural to develop stretch marks! It's a sign of life and is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Some will reduce in size and appearance after the pregnancy but if they don't and you are still worried there are many safe skin clinics that will offer laser sessions after the birth to reduce their appearance.

Swelling can be reduced by holding aquamarine, bornite, malachite, moonstone or sulfur to the affected areas.

Sciatica pain can be very painful, to reduce carry or wear zircon and hold onto painful areas of the body.

Pregnancy is a very unique miracle in this world from beginning to end. No one mother or baby is the same and each time the pregnancy will carry with it different symptoms, good or bad. I hope this list gives you some examples of ways to relieve these symptoms.
