Samhain Tools

Monday the 30th April will not only be full moon night for us this month, it marks the turn of the pagan calendar to Samhain, typically known as Halloween for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere. Samhain is a time to honor and give thanks for the last harvest of the season and to prepare us for the journey towards winter and Yule.

This special day also marks the beginning of the new pagan year. It is a small window in time thought when the veil is thinnest between our world and the spirit world. When spirit communication is easiest and Tarot, Ouija boards and runes can be brought out to contact lost loves.

Through the thinning of the veil one must consider protection from spirits of an unkind manner and treat any divination at this time with due diligence and respect.

When working at this time of the year be sure to have the correct tools in your tool bag to offer as much spiritual protection assistance as possible.

Before any work it is so important to cleanse your space with white sage and clear intention to start off in a spiritually clean, sacred space. Open a container from your heart center and set strong intention to allow only pure of heart spirits to send you guidance for your highest good.

Some crystals that are great for use at this time are almost any dark stones for grounding and protection such as black obsidian, black tourmaline, hematite, smokey quartz and onyx, although not dark one of my favourite protection crystals is petalite as it's so soft it doesn't ground me too much during spiritual work.

Orange is also so widely represented at this time, it resembles the remaining of the firey coloured autumn leaves before winter(although we don't get many of those here in Aussie land). You may represent this in your tools by including stones such as carnelian, amber and red jasper.

If you like to incorporate herbs into your tool bag consider spicey varieties such as cloves, cinnamon, anise. Rosemary is said to be a very wise choice at this time of year being not only a protection herb but also helpful in ancestral connection.

Incorporate other features such as black candles and figurines if you feel called. But remember even though it's been tagged a fun and spooky night, spiritual work is serious and if you don't make sure you are protected you may wake up with a new (not so fun) best friend in your house the next day.

Happy spiritual connections guys!

Happy wandering xx
